The Northern Territory Government is rebuilding the Territory economy, with the energy sector critical to job creation, private sector investment and long-term economic growth.
Development of the Territory’s gas resources remains a priority to securing reliable domestic energy supply, creating local job opportunities, and supporting economic growth across Northern Australia.
The Beetaloo Sub-basin is one of Australia’s most prospective onshore gas resources, and continues to attract global interest, with its potential compared to the Marcellus Basin in the United States.
Planning and investment in enabling infrastructure, logistics and regulatory frameworks are well advanced to ensure the Territory is ready as the Beetaloo Sub-basin moves towards production in 2026.
The Territory’s established onshore gas industry provides a strong foundation, with the Amadeus Basin supplying gas to Territorians and the nation for more than four decades.
The Northern Territory is also home to world-class LNG facilities in Darwin Harbour and serves as a critical service and supply hub for offshore energy operations.
To support emissions reduction and long-term economic diversification, the NT Government is also enabling new industries, including carbon capture and storage (CCS).
