The Northern Territory Government is helping facilitate the growth of the energy resources sector to create jobs, generate private investment and continue to build on the Territory’s many competitive advantages.
Continued development of gas basins is critical to the Territory’s economic development and for energy security domestically and abroad.
The Territory government is deeply committed to developing the Beetaloo Sub-basin, with its highly prospective shale gas resources being favourably compared to the Marcellus Basin in the United States.
Significant planning is underway for critical infrastructure and services to support Industry’s investment in the Beetaloo as it progresses towards production activities.
The Territory has a long and proud history of onshore gas production, with the Amadeus Basin near Alice Sprigs producing gas for more than 40 years.
The Territory is also home to major LNG facilities in Darwin Harbour, provides a service and supply hub for the offshore industry and is focussed on emerging projects for carbon capture, utilisation and storage through the Middle Arm Development Precinct.
