Brad Archer has extensive experience working on climate change, renewable energy and energy market issues.
In February 2026, he commenced as Head of Gas and Liquid Fuels Division in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. The Division advises on policy and regulatory settings with the aim of promoting well-functioning gas and liquid fuel markets and supporting energy security and the transition to net zero.
Brad was previously the CEO of the Climate Change Authority, where recently he guided the development of advice on Australia’s 2035 emissions reduction targets, which the Government accepted, and sector pathways to net zero emissions.
Between 2011 and 2018, Brad advised the Australian Government on climate policy, including renewable energy and clean energy transition, and previously worked in the Australian Treasury on competition and infrastructure policy, Commonwealth-State fiscal relations, economic forecasting and international taxation.
Brad has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and a Master of Information Management.
