Welcome from the Chief Executive

Samantha McCulloch

Dear Colleague,

The Australian and global energy sectors are at a critical crossroads. Economies around the world are seeking to balance the transformation to net zero emissions with the prevailing need for reliable, affordable energy at the same time that geopolitical tensions add stress to global energy markets.

What should be clear to decision-makers is that Australia’s oil and gas sector is a key player in this equation, supporting the rollout of renewables, delivering critical net-zero technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and fuelling the industries of today and tomorrow.

Natural gas delivers 42 per cent of the energy needed by Australian manufacturers to make the products that we rely on every day – from steel, cement, bricks and glass to the emerging opportunities of critical minerals processing.

Yet despite the pivotal role of natural gas in the transformation that will drive Australia towards net zero by 2050, domestic policy settings are failing to develop the new gas supplies needed to meet domestic demand, and we risk missing out on the growing demand for LNG in our region.

The Australian Energy Producers Conference & Exhibition is the flagship annual gathering for the oil and gas industry where Australian and global leaders of the industry gather to focus on these important issues.
Under the theme ‘Delivering the new energy economy’, the most significant figures across industry, government, energy users and geopolitics will come together to advance the sector’s central role in establishing the ‘new normal’ aligned with net zero, sharing experiences and insights on the major challenges and opportunities for the industry.

It is with great pleasure I invite you to the 2024 Australian Energy Producers Conference & Exhibition, held from 20-23 May in Perth, to be part of the conversation.

Our event’s success is built on its 60+ year history and reputation for bringing together a myriad of stakeholders from across the economy, including energy and business executives, key decision-makers, energy users, innovators, researchers and financiers. And this year is no exception, with a compelling line-up of confirmed speakers and exhibitors.

The Conference will shine a spotlight on the impact of domestic energy policies on Australia’s energy security and net zero goal, and what needs to change for Australia to have an orderly transition while maintaining our role as a reliable energy partner in our region.

You will also hear about the innovations happening in Australia today that will deliver the next generation of cleaner, smarter energy to Australian households and businesses, and to our valued partners in our region whose investment will make much of this possible.

We are proud to present the Australian Energy Producers Conference & Exhibition and I look forward to seeing you in Perth in 2024.
